This-n-That…

Today has been the first full sun day in a little over a week…feels great! A slight breeze makes it a perfect 75&degF.

After eleven years, we are no longer landlords. Last Thurs. we signed the papers selling our second rental. Feels weird to not have that a part of our lives any more. One year after we were married, we turned our first property into a rental…so it’s pretty much been all our lives together at this point. And, it’s weird for our children as that’s all they’ve ever known…talking about “the condos”, going with Daddy at times to do maintainence, etc. It’s time to move on to other things though…and they helped us get rid of nearly all the bad debt hanging over us due to some poor business attempt a few years back. That’s a big – YAY! Only a couple of small balance cards left and our mortgage. Have to keep our belts tight though as we went those two cards gone and want to refinance the house and put the equity into the desperate remodeling/repairs that have been needed since we moved in seven years ago. But, we are able to breathe *much* easier now. It feels so nice. 🙂

The chickens had their first encounter with a bear (we’re assuming it was a bear) in the wee hours of July 4th! As I’ve said before, we are still putting them in last years large garden box during the day with boards spaced over the top to allow some sun but not enough to get out. Not secure in the way of dogs and other creatures wanting to pester them – especially bears! We keep a good watch during the day though so it’s ok. At night, I still put them in the pet carrier (they are outgrowing it quickly though!) and bring it up on the deck (rather than the house now because they are stinky. 😉 ) I put it near the door thinking it would deter a critter such as a dog a little more but if it were a bear it could be heard and delt with more quickly. *NONE* of us heard a thing!!! I went to bed around midnight and the baby had snuggled with us so I was up around 2:30 – 3:00 am to lay him in his crib and noticed nothing amiss. I was up again a little before 7am and the carrier was completely *off* the deck a few feet away and *upside down*!!! What a scare those chickies had! Poor things! All were fine though thank goodness! Anyway, the carrier was pretty scuffed up and dirty…the bear pushed it around and rolled over a time or two obviously. So, last night and the night before, I put the carrier inside the greenhouse. Not that that would stop a bear who really wanted to get to them BUT I’m hoping if that happened we would at least *hear* that disturbance for sure! A secure coop has definitely moved closer to the top of the list of things to do for dh! 😉 He’s swamped with maintainence work right now though…probably in a couple of weeks he’ll have a breather to focus on some of our home needs!

Q. is *still* teething getting in those eye teeth. One had poked through a couple of weeks ago just a speck but now it’s just hanging out there waiting for the others to catch up I guess. The other top one (on the right) poked through on Sun. (the 4th) finally. The bottom ones are just under the skin and going to poke up any minute… They look *huge*! He’s been crabby off and on but mostly pretty good about it. Poor little deary. :-/

The garden is doing well as are the other plants around the property. The raspberry bramble is definitely a *bramble*!! I got in there a little ways yesterday and was so very pleased to see large berries forming! Yay! I didn’t want to push my way in too much and break branches… Good excuse for not weeding it huh?! 😉 I do want to develope it into an English garden type area. As I’ve said, dh made paths through there and laid down rock and made a log/twig bench into one of the banks when he was planting the canes for me and transplanted one of the lilacs there… But, time…always a lack of it. Maybe next year…again…. I can’t wait to pick those berries though – Yum-Yum! 🙂 Still waiting for those tomato buds to open. Man, I think we are running out of time on those. I’m already noticing a slight decrease in our daylight (sun is setting around 11:30pm as opposed to 1am now 😉 ) and am getting that desperate “quick! enjoy the rest of summer before it’s too late!!” feeling. Ugh. Winters are tooooo long here.

With that, I must away to catch the pleasant evening weather outside! (After a quick Garden journal update. The above plus a bit more…)

Blessings to all! 🙂
