I am back!!!

Still feeling a little frazzled though…

The market season was over a couple of weekends ago so business has slowed. However, we have some new goals/products in the works so hopefully things will pick up again and will maintain through the winter.

We started a heavier workload again for homeschool a couple of weeks ago as a result of the above. But, we’ve traveled quite a few of those days so I’ll be revamping the lesson plans again already.

Today is dd #2’s bday – Happy 12th mah dear!!! You are still the challenging feisty one but I’m certain God will do great things with you! Love ya! πŸ˜€

As of today, I am also reconnected to the “outside world” again! *whoop-whoop* So good to be back and I’m looking forward to catching up with the handful of friends I may have left on the ‘Net! πŸ˜‰ Come on and leave a comment so I know who are. *hint-hint* πŸ˜‰

That said, I’m outta here for now. Updates will be squeezed in here and there per usual. Again, I’m still feeling a bit frazzled. πŸ˜• While you are at it (leaving your comment telling me you were here), let me know what you would like to read about on this blog! I know that I’ve been a bit dull in the recent past compared to some of the updates I used to give and need some ideas. Are you interested in the weather? (It’s been miserable here this year. 😦 ) Our homeschooling? Our business? AK in general? Were my monthly updates of interest or not? Tell me what you’d like to know and I’ll ruminate on it and then hopefully give more of what you are looking for. πŸ™‚

Children

8/02 – 8/05 L. has really begun to walk! Not just two or three steps but sustained walking! On the 4th, she walked from the pantry all through the kitchen and dining area to the fireplace without falling down! πŸ™‚ Wow, my baby officially isn’t such a baby any more…

8/09 L. is 16 months today!

Celebrations

8/28 W.’s bday!

Remodeling

8/07 New 3 basin sink installed in kitchen. Yay! Now washing those big pots our large family uses so often will be so much easier since one basin is deeper than average.

Well, so far, this has been the shortest update. I wasn’t need as much in the shop although I did do a lot of knife cleaning and packing in the house. This month we did a lot of school – what I would consider more our normal work load. Lots to catch up on and keep ahead in (ha!) if possible. Take the opportunities when we can as things can get a little topsy-turvy here on a moments notice… πŸ˜› Oh, and I had a couple of health concerns that made me rest a lot (good thing I wasn’t needed in the shop as much!) that I’ll keep personal. Not very many pictures to share either. I did a “photo shoot” with L. for her “baby” portraits and there are a few pictures of the children in the kiddy pool, bouncy horses, swings, etc. but that would become redundant for you here. Maybe next month…

Until next time,

Celebrations

7/08 E.’s “Golden Birthday” – wrote a separate post.

Chickens

7/2 8 eggs found in a nest outside! We knew they to still be laying but looked in all the likely (previous) places and couldn’t find it. We finally did…and unfortunately all the eggs are rotten!!

7/12 1 (M)

Children

7/03 L.’s 6th & 7th teeth! 6 – right top lateral incisor, 7 – right bottom first molar.

7/17 L.’s 8th tooth! Right bottom first molar.

Wildlife

7/01 2 bear came through the backyard. Youngish…probably siblings that have recently left their mother.

7/02 The bears were in the backyard again. Saw only one but could tell there was another hanging around in the shadows.

Another short update/review. Business keeping us busy per usual. Don’t despair…I leave you with a photo sampling from this month…which shows we did have some fun despite having our noses to the grindstone. πŸ˜‰

Fun on the swings!

Fun in the grass!

Alaskan Wild Rose

A bit of gardening…Yum!

Boys in the trees!

Girls in the flowers!

Reminders of God’s promises!
Double rainbows over our house!
(In the right hand corner, you can see the second faintly.)

Recent backyard visitor!

Until next time,

You know you are…

a knife making family when your 3yo dd is playing with her dolls and this is what you hear:

Girl Doll – “Daddy give me a piggyback.”

Daddy Doll – “I can’t. I’m making knives.”

Girl Doll – “Okay. Those knives hurt you?”

Daddy Doll – “They did hurt me.”

Mommy Doll – “Oh dear!”

Daddy Doll – “Take me to the doctor!”

Mommy Doll – “I can’t. I’m busy.”

😯

LOL LOL LOL

Now, while our knives are extremely sharp, we can count on one hand the number of times dh has had a serious injury. (We are *not* counting the times either of us have been “knicked” by them though… πŸ™„ ) And, I’d never refuse to take him to the doctor/hospital if he asked/told me to!!! That silly little girl. LOL One of those times though, he did ask me to stitch him up…and I said, “I can’t!” Aaaah, the wonders of duct tape!!!! (I’m not kidding! πŸ™‚ ) If it really were a matter of life or death, I’m sure I *could*…like if we were out in the boondocks with no one else around…and the local firestation wasn’t but 5 min. or less up the road…or we didn’t have friends or family that were highly trained nurses, etc. Sheesh. It’s just neither of us likes to go to the doctor or have unnecessary medical bills and are “do it yourselfers” in as many areas of life as possible. Did I mention duct tape? πŸ˜‰

Yeah, it’s an interesting knife making life we lead.

Heads Up for Nursing Mamas!

This is a warning for users of Mommy’s Bliss N*pple Cream. It has been taken off the market and the FDA says don’t use it.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Food and Drug Administration on Friday warned women not to use or purchase Mommy’s Bliss N*pple Cream, marketed by MOM Enterprises Inc. of San Rafael, California.

The cream, promoted to nursing mothers to help soothe dry or cracked n*pples, contains ingredients that may cause respiratory distress, vomiting and diarrhea in infants, the agency said.

The potentially harmful ingredients in the cream are chlorphenesin and phenoxyethanol.

“FDA is particularly concerned that nursing infants are being unwittingly exposed by their mothers to this product with dangerous side effects,” said Janet Woodcock, director of the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research. “Additionally, these two ingredients may interact with one another to further compound and increase the risk of respiratory depression in nursing infants.”

The company has stopped selling the cream. The FDA said consumers should stop using the cream and consult a doctor if they experience problems or believe that their infant may have experienced problems due to the product.

Mothers whose children may have suffered adverse effects because of this product should contact the FDA’s MedWatch at 800-332-1088.

Personally, I’ve never used any creams while nursing. My first midwife suggested using my own br*ast milk should there be any soreness, cracks, etc. Very rarely did I have to – a mere handful of time that I can recall – through seven children now. It worked *every* time though and very well! So, my suggestion considering the above article, is save your money period. Use what God naturally gave you! πŸ™‚

4/09 Baby L.’s 1rst Birthday!!! πŸ˜€
Where did this past year go???? I’m flabbergasted…just flabbergasted. She’s so sweet and every one of us loves her so much! Seven children is not too many…it’s just not. I can’t imagine not having her in our family. To have stopped at four, like we in our naiveté originally talked of, it just wouldn’t have been right. I had always wanted a large family but my dh had never really given it much thought so we came to a compromise…both hesitatingly though as that didn’t seem quite right. I’m oh so thankful for what we learned together and for these three more children (so far)!

Chickens
